Inspired by New York, Milan & Paris, where the greatest designers traditionally present their new collections to the world, Lucca Fashion Week(end), June 23-24, has raised Lucca’s visibility in the sector by making fashion, craftsmanship, and the city itself, its focus. Click for video below
Lucca Fashion Weekend takes place in the evocative gallery spaces under the city’s walls between the baluardi of San Regolo, San Colombano, Santa Croce and San Martino. There, various national brands will present catwalks to critics and industry leaders.
Lucca Fashion Week Off instead features events open to everyone, from fashionistas to the simply curious. Fashion shows, entertainment and receptions in historically significant sites will interest not only tourists, the administration hopes, but native Lucchesi as well.
The evening program on Friday 23 June is a free entry collective fashion show organized by the Life Service Agency, to celebrate its 25 years of activity. A special catwalk of numerous Italian brands will be set up outside the Cavallerizza.
“The goal of Lucca Fashion Weekend” declared City Assessor Paola Granucci, “is to create an attractive event with a fashion focus, which creates opportunities for buyers while also relaunching the city’s image as a venue of high-end commercial pursuits, in terms of fashion and craftsmanship.”
“We want this first edition to represent a 360° opportunity for the city” added Assessors Mia Pisano and Remo Santini. “Not only is it aimed at attracting citizens and the trade, it is hoped that Lucca’s historical and cultural heritage will also benefit from being the fulcrum of the OFF program, which we will launch on May 31st. In this phase, the event will feature three special exhibitions dedicated to fashion to take place at Teatro del Giglio, at the National Museum of Palazzo Mansi and in the greenhouse of the Botanical Garden”.
“I am very happy to celebrate my 25-year career in the sector in Lucca and my return to directing, by bringing to the catwalk important brands from the national scene with whom I have been collaborating for years with productions in the Lucca area and Milan,” commented Liana Ferrari of the Life Service Agency, a coordinator of the event.
