For the 19th year, Lucca Jazz Woman will jam for free in evocative locations in and around the city. The Festival gives exposure to talented female artists and young people, while also raising funds for non-profit groups around the area. Events like the Lucca Jazz Woman concerts are important to promoting women in culture and in music, environments in which they are still not consistently present, says Cecchetti.
- July 20 at the Real Collegio, Teresa Morici, a talented Lucchese performer, singer and actress opens with a band formed from Lucca’s “Passaglia” Musical & Artistic High School. Pianist and composer Federica Cerizza then performs followed by singer Chiara Pancaldi.
- The evening of July 28, Capannori: the Canova Trio, a popular young band in Italia, opens the concert followed by improvisational singer and composer Beatrice Arrigoni.
- August 11 at Real Collegio: the duo of Lella Violi e Riccardo Arrighini on piano perform original pieces. Singer and actress Manuela Bollani performs her “The Italian Side of the Street” in the second set.
- August 17 singer Mila Ogliastro presents her album “The Wisteria Suites”; followed by “Orelle” the singer and instrumentalist Elisabetta Pasquale.
- August 24 the “Mimma Pisto Quartet” (Mimma Pisto, voce; Riccardo Fassi piano; Steve Cantarano, bass; Valerio Vantaggio, drums) takes the stage followed by the exciting percussionist Laura Klain.
August 29: a special appearance by Luigi Onori, music critic and jazz expert, who will present his book “Abbey Lincoln: a rebellious voice between jazz and politics” (L’Asino d’oro, 2023), a biographical portrait that traces the artist’s music, poetry, and philosophy across half a century of jazz and American history.
- August 31 singer Valentina Fin, followed by the “Fuccelli Fisarmoni’s Women’s Project”.
- The Grand Finale of Lucca Jazz Woman on September 2 will be in the church of San Francesco. Frida Bollani Magoni, Class of 2004, a “child of art” – whose father is pianist Stefano Bollani and whose mother is pianist Petra Magoni – Frida grew up immersed in the musical world and uses her artistic expression draws upon that of her parents. After attaining critical and public acclaim during her first two summer tours returns to what she loves – live concerts – with a new musical voyage across Italy, including original songs and great works arranged for piano and voice. The concert will take place outside at Lucca’s “Passaglia” Musical & Artistic High School. The concert at San Francesco is free but requires an advance reservations. Details are forthcoming.
All concerts start at 21:15, and while they are free, every night donations will be requested to help fund Lucchese non-profit organizations which this year are: LUNA, Artespressa, AISM Lucca – Italian Association for Multiple Sclerosis, Télia Association, the Don Baroni Association, Trust Center and Unicef Lucca.
