Lucca 23 July 2026 Mayor of Lucca Mario Pardini paid his annual visit to students at the highly competitive Puccini International Opera Composition Academy at the San Michelotto Complex. The young composers from Italy, Spain, Singapore and Mexico, are all at work developing their lyric projects at the Puccini International Opera Composition Course, taught by renowned docents Girolamo Deraco and Alessandro J. Bianchi with the contemporary music association Cluster.
The course travels between Lucca and the city of Ostra in the Marche region.
The students’ opera projects will be presented in May 2027, at the 10th anniversary of the Puccini Chamber Opera Festival.
“This is really a unique project, inspired by Lucca’s great musical heritage, a project which has put more than 90 lyric chamber operas on stage, including many produced in the composers’ home countries, ” said Mayor Pardini.
