After 82 years, Don Aldo Mei is still remembered in Lucca for this his saying, and for his courage in the face of Nazi hatred and arrogance. On this day, eighty-two years ago, the young priest was shot just outside Porta Elisa for hiding a radio, and even worse, a young Jewish man, in his church in Fiano, in the hills above Lucca. This, to say nothing of administering the sacraments to partisans. According to the Nazis, these were unforgivable acts. 

We are proud that Don Mei was from Lucca and that he is still remembered.
