On Sunday, October 18, 2020, in Lucca’s San Romano, an event called VOCI – VOICES: The Impact of Women on Italian History will present a chorus of women’s voices to enact the experiences of women who lived in Italy in different eras but who all left an indelible mark on the country’s culture. Among those to be portrayed by Lucchese actors are: educator Maria Montessori, astrophysicist Margherita Hack, soprano Renata Tebaldi, suffragette and politician Teresa Mattei, as well as writers Natalia Levi Ginzburg and Adriana Zarri among several others. By reading these innovators’ histories and writings, the organizers hope that listeners young and old will be inspired about life’s possibilities and educated about the little known contributions of women.
“Our objective is to grow our sense of community,” said Ilaria Vietina, Assessor for the Comune di Lucca, and a sponsor of the event. Enciclopedia delle donne.it, and Lucca citta delle donne in collaboration with MFP Editore, organized the event with a generous grant from the Foundation of the Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca.
The event at 16:30, is free with a reservation. For tickets, write to: cittadelledonne.lucca@gmail.com
