PREMERE PER LEGGERE IN ITALIANO

Many innovative and valuable interventions by the city’s administration recognize the importance of the human-animal relationship – particularly those bonds formed during COVID.

Working in collaboration with the Department of Veterinary Sciences of the University of Pisa for the European research project In-Habit, the city wishes to promote the value and psychophysical benefits derived from the human-animal relationship.

The current launch of pet care services focuses on interventions to support the elderly and people with disabilities residing in Lucca who find themselves in a situation of temporary or permanent difficulty in looking after their pet.

Lucca will be among the first cities nationwide to offer this type of service.

As long as canine pets are leashed and their owners clean up after them, they are welcome on the city walls, in many city restaurants and outdoor cultural events.

Consulting the city’s new LUCCA TREK itineraries around the region can also inspire pet-friendly activities.

Starting in April, In-Habit activities will complement the pet therapy interventions already underway at the two city RSAs, welcomed with great enthusiasm by part of the guests of the facilities.

The third sector bodies selected for pet care activities are Anpana Lucca, Lav Lucca and Anche per Te ETS, which will participate in the two-day training and coordination event (27 and 28 March) at the Real Collegio, as well as Prof. Angelo Gazzano of the In-Habit team of the University of Pisa.
