Eight bulwarks, six ancient barracks, and two castle structures upon the walls, along with the Tower of the Hours and tree-topped Guinigi Tower, were the set for 24 cultural associations who entertained Lucchesi and tourists at “And the stars shone” on the night of the shooting stars: August 10, 2023. The event, the second of its kind sponsored by the administration of Mayor Mario Pardini, gave the audience a free taste of some of Lucca’s musical talent.

Spectators were free to wander from performance to performance at will, or stay seated at just one, whatever they desired. Young families with baby carriages, individuals walking dogs, seniors and the young, all appeared to enjoy the unique celebration. And while many singers and musicians included the works of Giacomo Puccini in their repertoire, strains of jazz and modern music were also to be heard.
